Vex King had a troubled childhood, and this impacted his outlook on life in general as a teenager and young adult. After years of feeling angry and hurt by the universe, he decided to change his approach and attitude to life, and he is now a huge inspiration. In Good Vibes, Good Life, Vex King shares how he was able to overcome his negativity and provides tips on how to lead a happier and more fulfilling life. He covers areas from self-care, positive lifestyle habits, relationships and how to manifest your goals. Vex shows that by making these small changes, you can see a huge difference in your life.
If you read my last post, you'll know that one of the challenges I have set myself for 2020 is to branch out and read genres which I
never usually explore. This is the first self-help/spirituality book I have read, and I have to admit that I was really impressed by Good Vibes, Good Life. Not only is it an extremely accessible and easy read, but the messages that Vex King spreads throughout the book made me feel really positive and quite empowered about life. The book is sort of part-autobiography, where Vex shares his own past troubles, and part-DIY, where he shares tips on how to transform negative vibes and experiences into positive ones in order to lead a happier life. But Vex emphasises the importance of wanting to make these changes for yourself. It’s not as easy as reading this book, and suddenly all of your troubles or worries disappear. You actually have to make the effort to change your habits and outlook to see a real change.
The book is divided into parts, each explaining different areas of life which can help increase our positivity, or ‘vibes’. I particularly found Vex’s steps on how to transform negative emotions into positive ones really useful. As someone who tends to overthink and worry quite a lot, (as I’m sure a lot of people are), this helped me visualise how I can rationalise and control these emotions in the future.
The section I was perhaps most wary of was the part on meditation. However, the way Vex explains the importance of meditation and the misconceptions around it has completely changed my outlook on it. Meditation does not necessarily mean having to sit and hum with peaceful music playing in the background, but it has a much broader definition. Simply sitting by yourself and regulating your breathing is a form of meditation, as I learnt through this book. This doesn’t now mean that I’m going to dedicate an hour of my day to meditate, but I am now more conscious of the benefits of meditation and will try to invest more time into thinking about what I want to achieve. This is what I found so useful from this book; you don’t have to make drastic and radical changes to your life in order to make it better. It’s the smallest of changes that can be done by anyone that can have the biggest impact.
I think what probably drew me the most to this book was its section on manifesting goals into the universe. Vex again sets out some easy steps to follow when manifesting ideas, like writing them down rather than typing them, and saying them out loud every day. This section definitely resonated with me the most, so much so that I’ve now got my own little notebook where I can write down any ideas and goals that I have. Taking such a simple step has already made a difference to me mentally – it’s too soon for me to say whether everything I’ve manifested has or will come true, but it’s made me feel as though I’m taking matters into my own hands. This is what Vex King is so good at – making you feel like you’re in control.
Good Vibes, Good Life has definitely been an eye-opener for me, and I would really recommend it. Even if you’re not necessarily going through a rough patch, it can be a guide for future struggles, or just as a way to keep your positivity constant. I would also recommend giving Vex King a follow on either Instagram or Twitter if you want to see more positive and inspiring quotes in your day to day life. I’m really glad I challenged myself and picked up this book, and it definitely won’t be the last self-help book I read.
